i had a thought

as i understand capitalism, there is supposed to be a percentage of the population unemployed... soooooo in order to live in a socially responsible capitalist country we should have a safety net for adults who are unemployed not necessarily because of their own failure but because that's how the system is set up.

ho! what a fine plan! how should that be organized?

well it could be a government thing... or! or the people profiting from this here american capitalism could help the people who are suffering for their success. HO! yeah!

if the world requires some inspiration they should clink on this sentence, right here, clickity click.

wait... "filed teeth"?

when i was lying in bed last night it occurred to me that in "An Outpost of Progress" by Joseph Conrad the displaced "workers" are described as having filed teeth. The main characters, which i only remember as K and C, where described as fearful, regressed, child men. So why weren't they afraid of people with pointy teeth?

other weird before i fall asleep thoughts:

- is proliferous a word? like something that proliferates a lot...

- what if i have been mixing up "then" and "than" my whole spelling career?

- i want to learn how to make salmon burgers.... i had a really good salmon burger at that one restaurant.... what is that place called?.... and carmel popcorn! i could make carmel popcorn for the food gatherers bake sale..... yeah.... i could put them in individual plastic bags....

:P

Wednesday my friend Gill got me the most adorable gift -- a cookbook specifically for cupcakes. It is supremely sweet, pun intended, with its sections for classic, fragrant, and ridiculous(jk) cupcakes.
Friday we went to a folk music concert that my mother pressured us into attending, *sigh*. I thought that I would brighten up the event by baking some mini cakes. (also, i though they could double as a thank you)
So i made myself a shopping list and hauled the sleepy morning version of myself to the store, where i encountered a delightfully hypocritical person. I was standing in line at the check out counter and the bagger asked me if i would prefer paper or plastic. The woman behind me, who had apparently brought her canvas bags, gave me a look that could make Dan Quayle second guess himself.
At first i felt guilty, as i should have, but then humor of the situation hit me. I had just been silently accused of being an poor steward of our planet by a woman who was clearly only interested in trendy eco consciousness.
I'll explain. This woman was wearing jeans that where probably dyed and distressed in some third world factory that spills chemicals into already fragile agricultural areas. She was buying juice boxes, which can't be recycled, and individual cups of applesauce, which are clearly packaged irresponsibly. And she was buying an inordinate amount of perishable food, which led me to believe that she is a wasteful person.
whether or not any of my assumptions about her are correct i find it funny that a woman who does not try to present herself as environmentally friendly has the audacity to judge strangers for their inability to conform to the somewhat tired environmental goals set up by whatever magazine she has been reading.
Also, ironically, using canvas bags is one of the "tired environmental goals" that my family tries to adhere to. I should mention now that I believe every effort, however small, is important to the earths health, and I'm not trying to minimize the importance of what this woman is trying to do. I'm just reacting to her criticism with criticism.

i can play your game lady. :P

not really

i don't mind when...

- people mispronounce my name
- it rains
- i hear nail biting/knuckle cracking/"tapping"
- my hair gets tangled
- a radio station gets lost crossing state lines
- the neighborhood dogs bark at night
- the commercial breaks get longer as a television program progresses
- cashiers give me 5 pennies

it's fine
don't worry
(sometimes i 1/2 lie when other people say these things bother them.)

thanks phil
